I was an undercover agent on a secret mission! The target? To capture a wedding proposal, incognito on a small cruise on Lake Tahoe, without being noticed or called out as weird being a solo traveler on this trip that was mostly full of couples celebrating anniversaries or families attempting to escape some of the #heatdome this weekend (Sure it was in the mid-90s, but Sacramento hit like 107 so for many it was an escape). With my 6’2″ 277lb frame, with a bright teal backpack, you could imagine this seemed a smidge hard.
Nevertheless, I packed my camera bag and headed out to the shuttle pickup zone at the Hard Rock Casino. Made some quick friends with fellow travelers, told them what I was doing so they wouldn’t be weirded out, and finally found my targets. We boarded the shuttle and I was quickly separated from them in the line to get on the boat. However, once we got to dinner (thankfully not where he was going to propose), I was able to get a decent vantage spot to snap a few pictures during dinner.
After dinner service, I let them explore the rest of the boat while appearing to be just photographing the scenic surroundings, using the #canon #cameraconnect app to be able to control my camera and take photos discretely.
At one point I was standing right in front of them, holding my camera with one hand pointed at them but pretending to take a photo of the mountain behind them with my phone while capturing a few sweet photos of them looking at the lake.
The time came, and Rico had coordinated with the crew to clear the front of the boat, it got really quiet, I pretended to be someone just standing at the front of the boat and snapped a few pics, then when he pulled the ring, it was “go” time! I fired off bursts of photos “spray and pray” style so I would have options later in the edit.
Mission accomplished, she said YES, and I kept my cover!
