Do you ever have the feeling that you’ve made a grave error? I felt that way a few weeks ago.
I had picked up a wedding photography job in South Lake Tahoe for a 5 pm wedding, just a few days before our Pismo Vacation. Tahoe is about 1 1/2hrs from Sacramento and so looking at the normal driving times I thought as long as I had an extra hour buffer I’d be totally fine.
Then the Caldor fire happened. I had a vow renewal video be canceled because of the evacuation orders and the closure of HWY 50. I watched all of September as CalFire bravely fought the blaze, hoping it would be contained enough that the wedding would still be on.
Thankfully it was! Now I just had to get there. On that Friday I got up at 4:30 am so I could be at work by 5:30 and leave at 2. That’s about 2 1/2hrs of travel time with a bonus of 1/2hr of setup. I get on the hwy and I’m cruising it’s going great and then I get 15 minutes from Tahoe and we come to a dead stop! OH NO. I watch my GPS update my ETA from 4:30, to 5:30, to 6:30, to 7:00 pm.
This is not good, frantic I text the MOB and explain that I will do everything in my power to get there on time. I sit, I wait, I sit some more, then a little more waiting.
The MOB replies back that the officiant had got caught in the SAME traffic! Whew! They could start without me, but not him. FINALLY, the traffic clears, and I safely make my way as fast as I can to the beach. It’s going good I’m going to arrive just in time. Then I turn down the main street in Tahoe and hit some crazy traffic. WHAT IS HAPPENING.
Oh, it’s a HOMECOMING PARADE? Of all Friday’s TODAY IS HOMECOMING?
Anyways, I get there in the nick of time, get set up and shoot the wedding and it went great, here are some of my favorite photos.
